Vice President Cao Rongji and Deputy Chief Engineer Zhang Jiandong of JSTI Elected Members of PIARC Technical Committees

      Information of this newspaper: to further promote international technological cooperation and exchange and promote technological innovation and progress in the highway field, as required in work by the Permanent International Association of Road Congresses (PIARC), the Highway Bureau of China Ministry of Transport recently recommended to it members of the new session of technical committees, and Vice President Cao Rongji and Deputy Chief Engineer Zhang Jiandong of JSTI were respectively elected road asset management member of TC D.1 Committee and bridge technology member of TC D.2 Committee.

      Vice President Cao Rongji, now director of national engineering laboratory on new type road materials, has long engaged in the research, consultancy and design work for pavement engineering. He has attached great importance to the conversion, spreading and application of scientific and technological results, completed over 10 scientific research programs, with many research results in cyclic utilization, rubber asphalt and highway renovation and expansion technologies, published 12 essays and 2 special works, applied for 6 invention patents, and have got 1 special award, 2 first awards and over 10 third awards of scientific and technological progress at the ministry and ministry level. He has been a member of Youth Expert Committee of China Highway & Transportation Society for years, and has been awarded with titles of “rubber asphalt ambassador”, “young scientific and technological talent” and “excellent scientific and technological worker of Jiangsu Province” by the International Rubber Pavement Association, Ministry of Transport and the government of Jiangsu Province. He has made important contribution to raising the pavement construction quality and curing standard in China.

      Deputy chief engineer Zhang Jiandong has been engaged in the design and construction EPC of civil engineering works in other countries for many years, with rich construction and safety management experience, and the professional qualifications of Grade I civil works certified engineer as authenticated by the Construction Minister of Japan and APEC certified civil engineer. In China, he has taken charge of a number of scientific research subjects including those of State Natural Sciences Foundation, subjects of the Ministry of Transport for the west and major special subjects of Jiangsu Province; compiled as editor-in-chief the “detailed rules for durability design of concrete structures of highway projects”, an industrial specification of the Ministry of Communications; published two works “Construction safety and accident analysis in civil works” (as writer) and “Bridge seismic protection and consolidation” (as translator), published over 200 academic papers, and awarded with about 100 patents in Japan and China, some of his scientific research results have got excellent invention patent award of China, first award of scientific and technological invention of the province and award from China Highway & Transportation Society.

      The Permanent International Association of Road Congresses (PIARC) was founded in 1909, mainly doing information exchange on highway planning an management, design and construction, operation, safety and maintenance, as one of the most authorative and largest non-profiting and non-government international organizations in the highway field of the world. The new session of technical committee of PIARC (2016-2019) is comprised of 5 strategic theme, with 17 technical committees, 4 special working groups and 1 terminology committee under it, formed by excellent technical experts from all countries. Vice President Cao Rongji and Deputy Chief Engineer Zhang Jiandong being elected members of the new session of technical committees of PIARC indicates the affirmation by the world highway circle of the work done by JSTI in the research, consultancy and design in the highway engineering field over a long time. In the future, JSTI will continue its innovation on the maintenance of highways and research and development of new materials and technologies, to make more contribution in the highway circle of the world.
